Laura's influences are eclectic, her approach is fairly traditional.
Laura feels that the way something is painted is as important as what she is painting and why. It's difficult to put into words what a painting is about, which is why Laura thinks painters paint. The work should speak for itself.
Laura's work comes from a primary source, going through 'distillation' process.
Feeling that landscapes are about capturing the mood of the moment. In the process, they can also provide the vehicle for what's going on at the time of the painting rather than being about the original physical landscape.
Her still lives are inspired by junk-shop finds. Recycled treasures; things with a past; odd, poetic juxtaposition of object; they become invested with a peculiar symbolism. Laura is interested in the suspension of disbelief in theatre and in film. Laura also enjoys words - in a graphic sense and in their poetry the image they conjure up quotes and lyrics give ideas for paintings.spent 10 years living in Italy, which she says has heavily influenced her work. Laura studied at Glasgow School of Art and now resides in Glasgow.
