Whiting Bay Beach Sculpture Challenge!
Whiting Bay has a wide sandy beach at low tide and the pressure is on to create a masterpiece before the tide turns!
The beach turns into a hive of activity with many teams competing for the winner's trophy. The competition is sponsored by Arran Art Gallery and judged by renowned sculptor, Tim Pomeroy. The trophy was made by Tim, part of a relic of the old pier which was used by the Clyde steamers until around 1957. The old pier no longer exists but some residents will remember the hustle and bustle of the steamers arriving and departing throughout the summer months.
The grand prize giving ceremony is hosted by the gallery owner, Nick Giles, who presents the certificates and Arran Art Gallery Gift Vouchers to the winners.
